Princess Charlotte tipped to Qpt out of traditional royal role for more down-to-earth job

As the only daughter of a future King, Princess Charlotte will be entitled to a senior position within the monarchy as well as a new title when she is older.

Princess Charlotte could decide not to take on the traditional role destined for the second-born child of a King, a royal expert has suggested.

Charlotte, 8, is the only daughter of Catherine, the Princess of Wales and Prince William, the heir apparent to the British throne.

In recent months, she has increasingly appeared alongside her parents and elder brother Prince George at official events – suggesting the Waleses are preparing her for her future role as her brother’s right arm.

But while Charlotte is entitled to a senior role within the institution by virtue of her birth, she may still choose to opt out in favor of conducting a more down-to-earth life when she is older.

Royal expert Jennie Bond suggested the eight-year-old could fully embrace the modernity her parents are trying to bring into the monarchy and grow to be a “working woman” rather than a working royal.

Bond said: “I think we will be in a very modern era when the time comes. I question whether Charlotte will want to be burdened with more titles.

“She might be a working woman by then. Things could change so much in the next generation.”

The royal commentator pointed out that Charlotte would automatically be entitled to become the Princess Royal when she is older.

The title is traditionally assigned by the King to his eldest daughter – meaning William could hand out the additional title to Charlotte once he is on the throne.

However, she would need to wait until the current holder, Princess Anne, has passed on as the position is held for life.

But speaking to OK!, Bond suggested Charlotte could still refuse to accept the new title to avoid any additional burden and difficulties second-born royals have been facing for centuries.

She continued: “The natural option it would seem to me is that she might become Princess Royal.

“That’s the much more traditional route that the eldest daughter becomes Princess Royal so if I was going to put money on it, it would probably be that. But I also think that she might just feel she wants to remain as just Princess Charlotte.

“We’ve got William and Catherine who quite often tell the public to call them by their first names, so maybe their daughter will follow suit.

“Perhaps Charlotte will not even use the princess title by the time she’s grown up and definitely won’t want to be burdened with more titles.”
