NCIS

When was NCIS officially renewed for season 21?

They’re knocking each other down when your favourite show’s season finale shows some of the most interesting characters engaged in a tense conflict. You hear a loud gunshot in the distance out of the blue, and then the displays go black. Knowing that this was the final episode of the most recent season of your favourite crime drama and that you may have to wait a whole year to find out who is dead or whether anyone is killed or not is the most agonising thing in the world.

You must have experienced the same agony as I did when CBS’ NCIS Season 20 concluded on a dramatic cliffhanger. Your mind was left reeling from the dark screen, wondering things like, “Will Torres get his retribution?” Will he admit to being a cold-blooded killer? It’s common for a character to evolve, but what about devolution? The history must be known.

But you’ll have to wait a long to get the tale. It should go without saying that NCIS Season 21 won’t be back on your televisions for a long. The bigger issue, though, is whether it will return at all in 2023.

When was NCIS officially renewed for season 21?

Season 21 of NCIS was formally renewed on February 21. The show’s comeback for the 2023–2024 television season was announced on Instagram and with the release of a video montage. The caption on the picture read:

“BIG news! Get ready to grab your gear, we’ve got more work to do. #NCIS has officially been renewed for Season 21! We’ll see you there.”

Because this criminal drama is marketed as a fall programme, the new season is not anticipated to debut until September. It is anticipated to run on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, immediately after the new NCIS: Hawaii episodes.

We don’t anticipate the show to debut in September 2023 at all as a result of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have also caused production schedule delays for other critically acclaimed television programmes and series for multiple OTT platforms. The strike is anticipated to last until the authors’ demands are satisfied or a reasonable agreement has been reached. In the meanwhile, the CBS network’s primetime schedule for 2023–2024 is expected to undergo a paradigm shift.

NCIS season 21 is therefore anticipated to debut in the middle of 2024. During a speech at Banff moderated by Deadline’s Peter White, George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS and Chief Content Officer, commented on the prospect of delays in the fall 2023 schedule, which did not include the possible impact of the writers’ strike.
