Prince William and Princess Kate have shared a message to mark the first year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

The couple said: “Today we remember the extraordinary life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We all miss you.”

They signed it off “W&C” and shared three throwback pictures with the message.

The first image is one of the Queen, while the other two are family snaps featuring the Wales’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

On the anniversary of her death William and Kate are set to attend a private ceremony at St David’s Cathedral in Wales, and afterwards they will meet with specially selected members of the public.

They will lead tributes for the late Queen, a trip which will form part of their plans to return to work after their summer break.

Prince William will pay homage to his beloved grandmother, honouring her life and legacy, but is also keen to show the Firm are “looking to the future”.

He will not address the congregation directly.

A source said: “It will be an emotional day for all the Royal Family, as well as many people across Britain, recognising this date.

“But of course for others, it will be just another day and life goes on.”

It is believed that William and Kate chose Wales as the place to go for the emotional day due to the late Queen’s connection with St David’s Cathedral.

The ancient religious building, unlike others, has the sovereign as a member of its Cathedral Chapter, or governing body.

Other royal sources have suggested that the couple also wanted to travel to Wales after speculation they had not visited very often since they received their titles.

In 1982 the late Queen paid a visit to St David’s Cathedral to distribute Maundy Money, marking the first time the monarch had ever travelled outside of England to do so.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will be spending the day privately at Balmoral, the same place where Her Late Majesty died last year.

This echoes Queen Elizabeth’s own way of handling her grief, as she used to spend the anniversary of her own father King George VI’s death in private at Sandringham, where he died on February 6 1952.
