Princess Kate ‘would have fit in perfectly’ at posh 24-hour music festival
The Princess of Wales was in the company of A-Listers and Love Island stars at Houghton Festival - but she was surrounded by security.
An impromptu trip to the UK’s only 24-hour festival may have made the Princess of Wales “nervous”, but royal ravers are nothing new, an expert has claimed.
And it seems like the Princess of Wales shouldn’t have been nervous at all about fitting in at Houghton Festival – named one of the UK’s “poshest” events.
The royal plucked up the courage to head down to the festival after she was reportedly persuaded to join in her first-ever visit to such an event.
Princess Kate had been dining with pals the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, or David Rocksavage and Rose Hanbury, who own the 1,000-acre Houghton estate in Norfolk.
The Cholmondeleys live close to the Waleses’ Norfolk residence Anmer Hall, where they often retreat for holidays with their children.

Anmer Hall was gifted to Prince William and Princess Kate by the late Queen Elizabeth after their wedding.
Writing in the Telegraph, Ed Cummings, who has attended Houghton Festival previously, said the event is full of “ex-SAS goons, gurning public schoolboys and untz-untz music.”
The writer, having attended the 24-hour music festival himself, claimed Princess Kate would have been “practically the least posh person there” – but added that she “would have fit in perfectly.”
He added: “Over the repetitive thud of the music you could hear a happy hum of well-spoken men and women, in the mandatory upper-middle class festival outfit of Uniqlo bum-bag and Nike Air Force trainers, bumping into Cecily and Hugo who they hadn’t seen since prep school.”
The festival was founded in 2017 by DJ Craig Richards and its unique selling point is that it is the UK’s only 24-hour festival.
Cumming said the Princess of Wales may have timed her appearance at Houghton just right, as observers reported that this year’s event was “way less posh” than previously.
“‘Love Island boys instead of chins,’ says one attendee. ‘Glamping was full of Aussies,’ claims another.

But he said the festival hasn’t lost all its pedigree yet.
The writer stressed Princess Kate should be praised for going to the festival, adding: “Whether Kate’s presence raised or lowered the social standing of the event, she ought to be commended for proving that even a future Queen can decide to go out after dinner, and in so doing support her friends and the UK hospitality industry.
“All hail the Princess of Raves.”
