Prince William criticised for ill-advised message to George and Louis in World Cup video
The Prince of Wales has already faced criticism for not travelling to Australia to watch the Lionesses play in the final, where they were defeated 1-0 by Spain.
Prince William has been criticised online after he failed to feature his sons in a video that he posted wishing the Lionesses good luck in the World Cup final.
In the clip William and his daughter Princess Charlotte sit on a bench as Charlotte holds a football, with William apologising for not making it to Sydney in person but said he was “proud” of everything they had achieved.
Charlotte then comments: “Good luck Lionesses”, however journalist Poorna Bell believes Prince George and Prince Louis should have been involved too.
She wrote on Twitter: “The gender gap for sport begins at a young age and underpins ideas that everyone should take an interest in men’s sport while women’s sport is for girls.
“Bad enough he didn’t go to watch the match let alone only posing with his daughter – what message does that send to his boys?”
William did not include George or Louis in his video
As President of the FA William received a huge backlash when he revealed he would not be flying to Australia to watch the final in person, which saw Spain beat England 1-0 to lift the trophy.
Following their defeat the Prince posted a message of support on Twitter, writing: “Although it’s the result none of us wanted, Lionesses you have done yourselves and this nation proud.
“Your spirit and drive have inspired so many people and paved the way for generations to come. Thank you for the footballing memories.

“Congratulations to Spain. W.”
Many have speculated as to the ‘real reason’ why William did not make the journey, with some suggesting that he could not visit the Commonwealth country before his father King Charles does.
The King has not travelled to any Commonwealth member state since he ascended the throne last September.
Others have said that due to his enviromental credentials, as the founder of the Earthshot Prize, William could not just the huge carbon footprint of a round-trip to Australia for one football match.
Young England fans watch the final
Carol Vorderman also slammed William for not attending, as well as praising Queen Letizia of Spain, who did fly to Sydney to watch the final.
She tweeted: “Prince William, President of the FA, isn’t travelling to support the Lionesses in the World Cup Final”, alongside a graphic comparing the cost of all the Royal Families in Europe.
The broadcaster noted that while the British royals are one of the more expensive families, Spain’s are the cheapest, however her comments received mixed reactions with some saying he would have been criticised for making the long journey for one 90-minute game.
