King Charles deserves his chance to rule as expert blasts calls for William to take over

A royal expert claims King Charles deserves his chance to do everything he has spent his whole life planning to achieve

A royal expert has hit back at a recent poll that suggested more than four in ten Brits believe Prince William should have taken over as King, rather than King Charles, when the late Queen passed away last year.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said the King deserves his chance to do everything he has spent his whole life planning to achieve

The expert added that even Diana, Princess of Wales would reassess the criticism she once afforded her former husband.

She told OK! the late Princess of Wales would review her claim that King Charles was not suited to the “top job” following a successful first year as monarch.

The former royal correspondent said: “Charles deserves his time as in ‘the top job’ as Diana always called it. He has earned that right.

“I also think, all these years on, Diana would reassess her own view that Charles was not cut out for the top job.

“He might indeed be happier, ‘just painting in Tuscany’, as she suggested to me he would, but he also wants to fulfil his destiny and do his duty.

“And he has made a very solid start in this first year. His approach is clearly ‘steady as she goes’ and he has no plans to do anything that will rock the boat.”

Jennie admitted that Prince William has “come into his own” in the past year and his popularity is “sky high”, althought it would be “unfair” to suggest that he should have become king instead of Charles.

“William is having a tough enough time balancing his hugely increased workload with trying to spend as much time as possible with his family, ” she added.

She said that the Prince of Wales will bring more “radical change and a more modern looking monarchy” when his time will come

“As Diana once said to me ‘the country is very lucky to have William.’ And I think Charles is very lucky to have William too. He is now seen clearly as a King in waiting and a popular one across the age groups which is vital for the future of the monarchy. The great sadness is that he imagined and expected his wingman to be Harry. And together they would have been a truly great team.”
