Princess Kate and Meghan Markle in disagreement over lipgloss in ‘awkward’ moment

Princess Kate and Meghan Markle reportedly suffered an “awkward” disagreement after the Duchess of Sussex asked to borrow her lipgloss during a royal event back in 2018.
Just a few months before Meghan married Prince Harry, they joined Kate and Prince William to discuss their philanthropic ventures in a Royal Foundation Forum in front of an audience.
While the brothers joked about occasionally disagreeing, Harry later revealed in his memoir Spare that there had been genuine tension backstage between Kate and Meghan.
He explained that Meghan had asked to borrow Kate’s lipgloss as she had forgotten her own, and in response the Princess supposedly pulled a grimacing expression.
Harry recalled: “Meg asked to borrow Kate’s lipgloss. An American thing. Meg forgot hers, worried she needed some, and turned to Kate for help.

Meghan asked to borrow Kate’s lipgloss backstage
“Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube. Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced. Small clash of styles maybe.”
Despite both marrying into the Royal Family from non-aristocratic backgrounds, Kate and Meghan have never been close friends, according to sources.
Body language expert Judi James told Express.co.uk that some of the relationships the Duchess of Sussex formed within the family were not really “genuine”.

Kate and Meghan have never been the best of friends
She said: “Everyone assumed for no good reason that they would become close friends and that Meghan would be absorbed into the trio of Harry, William and Kate happily and willingly.
“There are numerous photos of the two women looking like the best of pals. But many appear to be ‘signal’ poses, i.e. performances intended to stop rumours of a rift rather than signals of any authentic friendship.
“Both would look polite up until the point of no return, which is when the frost would begin to appear but polite smiles and the odd giggle from Meghan do not guarantee genuine, behind-the-scenes warmth.”
Harry and Meghan have broken away from the royal circle
Ms James added that Meghan and brother-in-law Prince William were also never particularly close, saying: “It is hard to find any pose that has William and Meghan displaying even that polite warmth.
“There was one kiss on the cheek as a public greeting but William seemed to perform it on the hoof rather than lingering.
“His warmest gesture probably came when he beckoned her over to join them at the start of the walkabout after the death of the Queen.”
