Royal Family’s ten most painful injuries as Princess Kate suffers broken finger
This week the Princess of Wales visited HMP High Down with her finger in a bandage, but it is not the first time the Firm have had to carry on working while injured.

Being a member of the Royal Family means having to show up with your best foot forward, in spite of any illnesses or injuries the Firm may be suffering with.
Princess Kate was seen with her finger bandaged during a visit to High Down prison yesterday, which she explained was the result of some enthusiastic trampolining.
She is not the first royal to have to keep calm and carry on after a nasty accident, as King Charles and Prince William have both been similarly physically injured during public engagements.
The Firm’s love for sport is also a factor in many incidents, leaving them at risk of some potentially very serious accidents.

Prince William
The Prince of Wales needed surgery after breaking his finger in 1999 and was required to wear a sling, however that did not stop him attending the christening of his godson, Prince Constantine Alexios of Greece, in London.
King Charles
The King managed to get sawdust in his eye while cutting down a tree in his garden in 2001, and was ordered by the hospital to wear an eye patch.
Prince Harry
In 2013 Harry broke his toe while on a night out in Norfolk with pals, but annoyingly for him he only became aware of the injury the morning he was due to set off on a 200-mile trek across Antarctica.
He wrote in Spare: “Silly injury. But debilitating. I could barely walk.”

Prince Philip
Just a few years before his death in 2021 at the age of 99, Philip broke his hip not long before he was due to appear at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
However he impressively managed to walk without a crutch at the ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth
In 2003 the late Queen had keyhole surgery after tearing the cartilage in her right knee while out walking, and she needed crutches to get around for a while.
Queen Mother
The Queen Mother was famously rushed to hospital in 1982 after choking on a fishbone, which required emergency surgery to remove after it became lodged in her throat.

Throughout her sporting career as an Olympic equestrian the Princess Royal has sustained some rather unpleasant injuries from falling off her horse, including a sprained wrist and being knocked out, with her saying of the latter: “It was going very well and then I don’t remember anything else. Nothing at all.”
Zara Tindall
Just like her mother Zara also became a professional horse rider, even winning a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
She has also been through the wars however, as she lost consciousness following a fall from her horse in 2004.
Mike Tindall
Perhaps the most serious royal injury came courtesy of former international rugby player Mike Tindall, after a tackle left him with a misplaced rib which punctured his lung and his liver.
