The "Torn Apart" Organized Crime Crew Will Do Some "Weird Stuff" After Whelan's Death

Detective Jamie Whelan (Brent Antonello) was suddenly killed at the end of Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 3and his fellow squad members will be facing a whirlwind of emotions in the aftermath of this event.

How to Watch

Watch Law & Order: Organized Crime Thursdays at 10/9c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

In an interview with NBC Insider, Ainsley Seiger, who plays Detective Jet Slootmaekers, opened up about how the characters are attempting to process the tragic loss.

“At the end of last season, one of our detectives, Jamie, died. There’s really no good way to say it. And we miss him very much. And this season is kind of a continuation, an exploration, of how the squad is dealing with that passing,” she said. “How everyone is either coming together or being torn apart by this unexpected loss. And grief makes you do some weird stuff. So the grieving has made Jet do some weird stuff.”

Danielle Moné Truitt, who plays NYPD Sergeant Ayanna Bell, also talked about how Whelan’s former team members are using their own methods to grieve.

“None of them are coping very well,” she told NBC Insider. “We all loved Detective Whelan. We have become a family and a team, so it’s a lot to have to deal with his loss. Reyes is very angry. He didn’t want anything to change. Jamie’s desk is still empty. Nobody can sit at it. Jet is trying to act like she’s okay, but she’s not. She’s holding all her emotions close to the vest. And Stabler just ran off and did an undercover job so he didn’t have to deal with anything. The way Bell copes is through problem-solving. So she’s bringing in an AI expert to use AI technology to help us do policing in a better way and see if that works.”
