Shannen Doherty breaks down in heartbreaking public appearance, months after terminal cancer update
Shannen Doherty has had a remarkably tough time of things of late, but the actress remains a popular figure in the eyes of fans all over the world.
The 52-year-old revealed this year in June that her stage four cancer had mestasized to her brain, prompting an outpour of sympathy.
By and large, Doherty has done her utmost to document her cancer battle – posting candid videos to her Instagram and providing regular updates intended to inform and inspire.
Recently, the Charmed star was given a rockstar’s reception at a 90210 panel alongside her former cast… and one that left her in tears.
As per reports, Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but went into remission two years later after undergoing treatment.
Tragically, the actress appeared on Good Morning America in 2020 to let the world know her cancer had not only returned, but that it was at stage four.
“It’s going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I’m stage four,” she said. “So my cancer came back and that’s why I’m here.”
At the time, Doherty revealed that she had kept the news away from the public sphere for a year, admitting: “I don’t think I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways.”
Just how difficult that year must have been is beyond our powers of comprehension, but it’s known that the actress largely kept her damning diagnosis to herself as she worked on a reboot of BH90210.
And it was at a panel to discuss the hit show that she appeared alongside former co-stars including Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris.
The panel, hosted by PEOPLE Senior Editor Breanne L. Heldman, gave Doherty and her fellow cast members the chance to talk about their old show and the incredible success it had.
Perhaps the main talking point, however, was the moment Doherty received a standing ovation from the crowd that left her in tears.
The 52-year-old said: “Thank you so much.
“You guys know how much I love crying constantly. And I do, it seems. So, thank you.”

As mentioned, Doherty revealed earlier this year that her cancer had metastasized to her brain and was terminal.
Last week, close friend and Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Brian Austin Green offered an update as to Doherty’s condition, revealing:
“We talk all the time,” he revealed. “She’s an incredibly tough person. If there’s anyone who could put up a real fight to cancer – she’s one of them.
“It’s not an easy situation, obviously, but I love her to death.
“And she’s making the absolute best of it.”
