Heartland Season 17 Production: Spotlight on an equestrian filming Location
This week, Heartland episodes 1703 and 1704 are almost complete. Rain, snow or shine… filming continues on.
While Chris Potter directs episodes 1703 and 1704 this week, Director Michelle Morgan and additional Heartland crew are preparing to start filming episodes 1705 and 1706 next week. Here is a fun fact about ‘prep’ on a TV production: Today, Michelle and crew are on a “Tech Survey” where they are scouting different locations around Alberta to determine where certain scenes will be filmed. There are some locations separate from the usual filming spots at the Heartland Ranch, Dude Ranch, and the Maggie’s Diner set.

We’re kicking off a spotlight on various Heartland filming locations in Alberta to give you an inside glimpse of some of the beautiful spots that we’re lucky to spend time in. Although Hudson is a fictional town in Alberta, the locations we collaborate with and film in are very real.
First off, Spruce Meadows in Calgary!
Some of the equestrian horses that you see on Heartland are shown at this leading horse sports venue in their jumping competitions, and Heartland even filmed at the facility a few seasons back. Heartland has featured a number of jumping horses that are also involved at various events here throughout the year… and here’s an interesting tidbit, the beautiful Gypsy Vanner, “Ophelia” in Season 13 (2019) was from Spruce Meadows.
And you never know what Heartland cast members might be in attendance at a Spruce Meadows event (hint: there’s one this weekend), enjoying their time off from filming.
