Sadly, Bob lost his beloved wife, Ginnie Newhart, earlier this year. The family released a statement announcing her death on his Facebook page, which read:

“We lost our beloved Ginnie Quinn Newhart – Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, on April 23, 2023, after a long battle with illness. She was our rock, and we miss her terribly.”

Ginnie was 82 years old when she passed away, and her death came only three months after she and her famous husband celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The television writer was introduced to Bob when she worked as a babysitter for his co-star Buddy Hackett’s kids in 1960. Hackett set them up on a blind date, and the pair hit it off.

The couple wed in January 1963, and when asked in an August 2019 interview whether he knew she was the one, Bob said she was. “We had the same values, and we enjoyed being with each other. She had a great sense of humor, so she had all the things I was looking for,” he divulged.

The Grammy Award winner shared he and his love remained happy together because she could make him humble himself whenever he got arrogant.

Bob revealed he and Ginnie remained grounded in that they knew the entertainment industry all too well and opted not to go to every high-profile event because they did not want to live like that. He disclosed in October 2019, “We’re both Catholic.”

Asked if he had any regrets, Bob admitted he wished he could have married earlier but could not afford it then. When he first tasted success, he had no one to share it with and said it would have been better if he and Ginnie could have shared that.

Ginnie is survived by Bob, their four children, Rob and Timothy, and their daughters, Jennifer and Courtney, including their ten grandchildren.
