A Blind Professor Reluctantly Gets a Guide Dog in Newest Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ Movie
Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is upping the ante on diversity in its casting and new lineup of movies. Earlier this year the network premiered Guiding Emily, a movie which starred Sarah Drew and Antonio Cupo about an active 30-something executive who becomes blind after a freak accident. The movie also featured the point of view of her new guide dog, Garth (voiced by Eric McCormack). A bit of a tearjerker, the movie offered viewers more insight on guide dogs and their rigorous training.
In the new My Christmas Guide, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ latest Miracles of Christmas movie, a legally blind literature professor—played by blind actor Ben Mehl—gets a guide dog at the behest of his daughter but is conflicted about his decision. The movie offers a little more insight into the training and trainers of guide dogs. Here’s everything we know about the movie including a Parade.com exclusive sneak peek!
What is My Christmas Guide about?
Trevor (Ben Mehl), a college literature professor and single dad, has recently and suddenly lost his sight and is barely hanging on.
To make matters worse, a new construction project at his college poses everyday dangers for him, with the head of his department worrying for his safety and suggesting that Trevor take some time off until the project is complete.
Instead, his teenage daughter Annie (Ava Weiss) convinces him to visit Best Friend Dog Guides, a facility that trains seeing-eye dogs for the vision impaired. There they meet Peyton (Amber Marshall) who introduces them to the perfect guide dog, Max. As Peyton trains Trevor with Max, the two bond and Peyton helps Trevor regain his old self-confidence.
But when Trevor is finally forced to take leave from his department due to the hazardous construction conditions, his faith and trust in Max is tested. Trevor will have to step out of his comfort zone, let go of everything he’s familiar with, and turn his support to those around him—including Peyton, in the hopes of restoring his faith and confidence in his abilities.
