Where to watch Heartland season 17

Heartland season 17 is available to watch on CBC every Sunday through the end of the season. You can stream the season on CBC Gem, which is CBC’s streaming service, but you need a subscription or TV login to watch the season.

In Canada, you can also watch the series on Fubo with your subscription, but the episodes only hang around for a limited amount of time. The full season is available for purchase on AppleTV.

Season 17 will be available to stream on Up Faith and Family soon.

Season 17 cast

The Heartland season 17 cast has not been officially announced, but we know most of the main cast will return for season 17. There are also a few actors who will not be joining the cast.

Heartland has a massive cast! There are few shows on TV right now with a cast this big. Obviously, we don’t see all the cast in every episode, but we do see characters come and go throughout the season.

Heartland season 17 cast:

  • Amber Marshall as Amy Fleming
  • Michelle Morgan as Lou Fleming Morris
  • Shaun Johnston as Jack Bartlett
  • Chris Potter as Tim Fleming
  • Kerry James as Caleb O’Dell
  • Gabriel Hogan as Peter Morris
  • Aidan Moreno as Rick Adderly
  • Jessica Steen as Lisa Stillman
  • Baye McPherson as Katie Fleming Morris
  • Lucian-River Chauhan as Luke Kashani
  • Ava Tran as Parker Yang
  • Ruby and Emmanuella Spencer as Lyndy Marion Borden
  • Alisha Newton as Georgie Fleming Morris

Sadly, Robert Cormier who played Finn in season 15 and season 16 of Heartland will not return for season 17. Cormier passed away in the fall of 2022 at the age of 33.

How many episodes are in season 17?

CBC confirmed there will be 10 episodes in Heartland season 17, which is quite a bit lower than in previous seasons. We’re used to seeing 15+ episodes per season of Heartland, but that’s just not the TV landscape anymore. Only season 13 and season 15 have had 10 episodes.

It’s obviously a bummer that there are only 10 episodes in the new season, but it’s still great that the show is going strong after all this time. There’s so much potential for more.

Production on season 17 wrapped in August

The cast and crew started filming Heartland season 17 on May 8, 2023. Because the show is a Canadian series, it’s not a WGA or SAG-covered show, so the series was able to film through the writers’ and actors’ strikes.

CBC confirmed production on season 17 wrapped on Aug. 29. That was the last day of filming for a while, but the good news is that the network referenced  “a break” in its official writeup. That sure makes it seem like the series is coming back for another season, which would be season 18. Stay tuned for more information there!

How many seasons are there?

So far, there have been 16 full seasons of Heartland and 249 episodes, over those 16 seasons

As of Oct. 29, there are 254 episodes of Heartland over 17 seasons, with many more to come throughout season 17. The show’s 250th episode was actually the season 17 premiere. How cool!  What an honor for a great show.

Where to watch Heartland season 16 (and why it’s not on Netflix)

Heartland season 15 was added to Netflix US in May 2023. Unfortunately, Heartland season 16 is not available to stream on Netflix US yet. While we anticipate it will be on Netflix soon, you’ll have to look elsewhere to watch Heartland season 16 before season 17 premieres.

Heartland season 16 is available exclusively through UP Faith and Family right now. You can subscribe to the streaming service and watch all 15 episodes of Heartland season 16 before the Heartland season 17 premiere.

New seasons of Heartland used to come to Netflix US more frequently, but now, UP Faith and Family has a deal with CBC to exclusively stream new seasons of the series for a limited time. It’s hard to say how long the deal lasts that keeps Heartland season 16 off Netflix and on Up Faith and Family.

It looks like Heartland season 15 was added to Netflix about 18 months after the season ended. We have to assume that will happen with Heartland season 16, as well, unless Netflix can work out a deal to stream the new series, as well.

Season 16 ended in February 2023. If we really have to wait 18 months to watch Heartland season 16 on Netflix, we’ll probably be waiting until about August 2024 or sometime in the late summer or early fall of 2024.

Is Heartland based on a book?

Yes, well, lots of books! Heartland is based on the popular book series of the same name written by Lauren Brooke. There are 25 books (25 BOOKS!) in the series published between 2000 and 2008. And, George R.R. Martin can’t finish one book in more than a decade.

That’s a joke. Please don’t freak out.

So far, CBC has not renewed Heartland for season 18, but it’s still really early. As we mentioned, the new season has already been referenced by CBC. Typically, new seasons of Heartland are announced in the spring, so we’ll probably have to wait until then to learn if the show is continuing or not. Based on the number of books in this series, we definitely think there’s more to the story.

Right now, fans do not have anything to worry about when it comes to Heartland ending. There’s no way this show, at the height of its popularity, will be canceled. Heartland season 18 should definitely happen on CBC.
